frequently asked questions

Coming for counselling can be a little scary for some people. I hope that these often asked questions below will give you more information about me and my work.

How much is a session and how long is it?
As of January 2009, for counselling my fee is £45 for an individual or £60 for a couple for a one hour session. For EMDR the sessions are for indiviuals only, last 90 minutes and cost £70.

How long do I need to come?
For as long as you feel the sessions are valuable to you. Sometimes that will be one session, other times it might be a year or two. What I do reccommend is that you do at least 4 sessions, which gives us time to get to know each other and hopefully enough time for you to feel at ease.

Are you qualified?
Yes. I have a Diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre, London (BACP Accredited course). I'm a BACP Accredited therapist and an EMDR level 2 practitioner.

How quickly can you see me?
I will endeavour to see you within three days of you contacting me but this is dependant on my current schedual.

Is what I say confidential?
Yes, the content of the sessions are confidential in accordance with the BACP ethical framework.

Can I bring my husband/wife/boyfriend/other to my first session?
Of course, bring some support with you. However, after about 5-10 minutes, with your permission, I would ask that person to wait for you outside. On some rare occasions the partner has stayed for the session but, on the whole, that isn't encouraged.

I want to come for couples counselling but my husband/wife/partner is unsure?
This is not uncommon and I would encourage you both to come along to the first session and then decide if it is what you both want.

My teenage daughter/son wants to talk to somebody, would you be able to tell me what you talked about after the session?
The sessions are confidential and I respect that. If your child wishes to tell you what we talked about, then that will have to be his/her choice.

Can you recommend other therapists?
Of course. There are many great therapists around and I would happily recommend Lara Hickey-Web (Woking), Cate Talbot (Cambs), Catherine Price (Cambs), Jean Harding (Milton Keynes), Greta Langdale (Milton Keynes).
